Pocket Revolvers got the name because they fit easily into a coat pocket. Colt introduced the model as a black powder firearm for civilians.
With the later introduction of the 1849 Wells Fargo Pocket Revolver and the 1849 Pocket .31 caliber pistols, Colt’s success in the civilian market was assured.
